My students are currently doing a unit on exploration and I was looking for a good timeline maker to help them create personal timelines as well as those for the history of exploration. Fortunately, I was able to find a great review of a new timeline maker called Tiki Toki at the ILearnTechnology blog.
I signed up for a free account to test it out and it creates beautiful timelines with relative ease. However, the free account only allows you to create one timeline and does not allow the available options to embed the timeline on your site group editing. This really is too bad because I think it would be good for the free version to offer full features to see what can be done. It would also be a great way to promote the site if presentations could be embedded on websites.
I will continue to try the site to create a class timeline on the history of exploration, but likely will not pay for it since the options available limit the number of timelines you can make.
Many popular sites that have educational value have created education memberships which are either free or heavily discounted. I do hope that the creators of this site see the potential of their product in education and make it affordable for educators to create multiple timelines with a class or school account.
